There are numerous places in the centre of Athens where visitors can have a great time, drinking a cup of coffee, tasting traditional Greek cuisine or have a few drinks and catch the sunrise.
First of all the hole area around Acropolis, Plaka and Monastiraki are full of cafes and taverns.
Ermou street is the limit between Monastiraki and Psiri, once you cross that street you find yourself inside a fairytale, as pubs and bars restaurants and taverns are next to each other in an area of ten blocks. What is unique about Psiri area is that all the stores operate inside old houses that have been renovated and the hole scenery gives the impression of a walk at an Athenian neighborhood of the previous century.
A walk at Colonaki will satisfy the most cosmopolitan visitors as it was the area of the cosmopolitan Athenians of the past century and has kept its character until today.
Just below Colonaki towards Patission street, Exarcheia the home of the “avant- garde”, crowded with students and young people until the sunrise.
For the lovers of art, Gazi, located a couple kilometers under Omonia square having as its label Techno polis, an old factory now working as a host for music and art festivals with the most popular ones the festival of comics on the end of October and the jazz festival every June. A walk on the alleys near techno polis will reveal a few low profile but great bars for the ones that want something more than the crowd.
Athens during summer is full of outdoor music halls and theatres which host artists from all over Greece and international ones of pop, rock, traditional and ethnic music.
The most important outdoor music halls are the theatre of Lycabetus hill, the theatre of ‘Melina Merkouri’ and the theatre of ‘Petra’.
Athens is a capital of five million, the capital of Greece, full off life day and night, waiting to give something of its own history to the visitors, waiting to give some of the Greek hospitality and friendship.
