When summer comes in mind, most travelers think of a sandy beach ending at crystal blue water. That’s exactly what the Greek island beaches provide to the visitors! One may compare the Greek island beaches with some of the most organized beaches of Europe or the Caribbean, but they are incomparable in terms of the quality of the crystal waters and the variety that they provide.

Greek island beaches vary from sandy ones with golden color to pebbly ones. They also vary in the depth of the water from shallow ones, ideal for families with small children, to extremely deep water for the demanding swimmers and the scuba diving explorers.

Greek island beaches also vary in the level of organization they provide. There are the ones on which visitors can rent lounge chairs and umbrellas, the cost of which starts from 5 euro per day for two lounge chairs and an umbrella and comes up to 10 euros depending on the island. On other beaches extreme sports are provided, the cost for that is usually about twenty euros. Finally there are also beaches with beach bars or restaurants, the prices there are most times normal which for the Greek islands is two euros for a soft drink five to seven euros for alcohol and about fifteen euros per person for a full plate meal. Of course for those who want to be isolated, there are beaches without any facilities but most times these beaches need a short walk to be accessed.

What is really important and needs to be said is that almost all of the beaches on the Greek islands can be accessed free of charge, even if it is a hotel’s beach, it can be accessed by visitors who do not stay at the hotel.

Here are some of the most representative and beautiful beaches we have visited and we recommend to all visitors to the islands:

Platys gialos, Sifnos island. Sandy beach with progressively deep water. Organized with lounge chairs and umbrellas for rent, beach bars and restaurants available.
Pori, Koufonissi island. Sandy beach with white- golden coloured sand, not deep water. Beach bar available
Mouros, Amorgos island. Pebbly beach with deep water, rough imposing landscape in the colours of grey and blue. Restaurant and bar available ( a few minutes walk)
Romaikos gialos, Limnos island. Sandy beach, beach bar and restaurant available.
Roukounas, Anafi island. Sandy beach with deep water. Vatses, Astypalaia island. Pebbly beach with deep water.
Ahladies, Skiathos island. Sandy beach, fully organized.
Petani, Kefalonia (Zakynthos) island. Beach with thin pebble.
Mesakti, Ikaria island. Beach with thin white sand.

It doesn’t matter what type of visitor you are, seeking cosmopolitan life or tranquility, a family man or a solo player seeking adventures, the beaches at the greek islands can fulfill all types, meet all kinds of needs. They will surely travel you into the most ancient fairy tale and excite your senses! Give you times of absolute relaxation under the Mediterranean sun and dives into the big blue!
