Cruising is a special kind of tourism, which gives the opportunity to travelers to view things from a completely different point of view, enjoy the sea and relax at the deck of luxurious cruising ship or a sailing boat, having the ability to visit more than one place in one travel, in one package.

Greece is an ideal destination for cruises because it has got over one thousand islands and many harbors in which visitors can enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean landscape.

There are many cruising companies that operate cruises in the Greek islands. There are certain destinations which are more popular than others and therefore are covered with big and luxurious cruising ships and they are included in standard packages. Such destinations are the islands of Rhodes, Mykonos, Santorini, Patmos and Crete, combined with destinations at the Turkish coasts. These cruises can be from three days to ten days These packages can be booked by all major, Greek and foreign, tour operators and travel agencies.

There are cruising companies of smaller size that operate in a local level and organize cruises to various destinations with sailing boats or yachts. These are usually cruises small in the number of passengers that participate and can even be done by fully booking a boat. Therefore the destinations can change according to the clients’ needs although the companies offer some standard packages such as round trips to the complex of the Cyclades islands. The durations of these cruises can start from a few days and come up to a few weeks.

Daily cruises also organized at the islands of Saronikos such as Hydra, Aegina and Spetces.

Also daily cruises with small boats converted to tourist boats, can be found in almost every island, operating excursions to isolated beaches and smaller islands which are near by. These cruises cannot be booked in advance but this should not worry visitors because there are a lot of choices and frequency in schedules.

Cruising the Greek islands is an extraordinary experience, it is a great opportunity to get to know the Greek civilization and culture from a completely different angle, enjoy the Greek beaches in a more private way, especially the ones that cannot be accessed by the main land. Relax under the blue sky of the Mediterranean or under the stars during night having the picturesque lights of an island as your only guide.
