When summer comes in mind, most travelers think of a sandy beach ending at crystal blue water. Exactly what the Greek island beaches provide to the visitors! One may compare the Greek island beaches with those of the most organized of Europe or the Caribbean, but they cannot be compared on the quality of the crystal waters nor in the variety that they provide.

Greek island beaches differ in the kind of beach from sandy ones with golden color to pebbly ones. Also differ in the depth of the water from shallow ones, ideal for families with small children, to extremely deep water for the rough swimmers and the scuba diving explorers.

For the last thirty years the complex of the Greek islands has been one of the most popular destinations for summer vacations. This is because of the plenitude of the Mediterranean sun and sea and of course the unique architectural structure of the Greek islands.

Although within the past thirty years many things have changed in the Greek reality, the Greek islands have kept their characteristics unchanged, combined in harmony with the needs of modern life and technology.

It is true that the Greek islands can satisfy all kinds of tourists, from the most demanding ones to the simplest ones, there are alternative destinations covering all kinds of budgets, all ages and life-styles.

For the most demanding ones there are of course some destinations that are plentiful in luxury and organized facilities, with brunches of the most modern five star hotels, restaurants and clubs. Corfu, Santorini, Rhodes and Myconos is only a small sample of the many Greek islands that compete in luxury and facilities the most cosmopolitan European destinations.

Needless to say that every single island has its own history with ancient and middle ages monuments to remind to the travelers that Greek ground has a legacy of centuries. But for the most demanding travelers the island of Crete with the palaces of Knossos and Phaistos, remains of the Minoan civilization, the first Greek civilization of the Mediterranean, will without any doubt outstand them. Santorini is also a destination with great history where travelers can visit the ruins of the first Cycladic settlement which is aged from 1600 to 1500 B.C. Also worth visiting, the island of Delos which has no habitants and travelers can only visit during the day. Delos was supposed as a holy island during the ancient years and it was dedicated to the good Apollo, today visitors can see the ruins of the temple of Apollo. The ruins of the ancient theatre and the passage of the lions. Delos is located at the centre of Cyclades and can be visited by boat from all the surrounding islands.

For travelers who want something alternative, for the ones who want to get closer to nature and relax under the Greek sun without any disruptions, there are plenty Greek islands, Ithaki which is located at the Ionian sea and has great beaches spread all over the island waiting to be discovered. Also Amorgos with the great trekking paths, surrounded be the grand blue sea, at the southern Cyclades. Astypalaia at the southern Aegean sea, full with great beaches and trekking paths. For the most demanding ones there is Kalymnos at the southern Aegean sea that provides some of the best climbing routes, for beginners and advanced, next to the sea.

The Greek islands can fulfill all kinds of travelers, giving the ability to the travelers to choose among over fifty islands that distance only a few hours by ship, with a very good organized marine net work, travelers can choose many islands to visit within a few day vacation and combine night life with relaxation, cosmopolitan vacations with coming close to nature.

The Greek islands are a unique complex always among the top listed destinations globally.
